Title: Blue Estate Vol. 3 | Publisher: Image Comics | Written by: Viktor Kalvachev & Andrew Osborne | Art by: Viktor Kalvachev, Toby Cypress, Nathan Fox, Peter Nguyen, Dave Johnson, Kieran, Robert Valley, Alexi Briclot
Crime Suspense, Brilliant Writing, Endearing Characters and a striking commentary about the human experience! –Naw, just kidding… Blue Estate didn't have any of that stuff.
It didn't help that I came in on volume number 3. This was the first I'd heard of the comic Blue Estate, but I was intrigued by a crime drama. To begin with, I had a hard time caring about the characters. They were all just really awful people trying to screw each other over. Many of them were very stereotypical. Add to that the writer's flat attempts at humor with repeated jokes about termites and a gag about getting a race horse high. This book was a real chore to read. Just when i thought the story was going to take an interesting twist, that direction was resolved in a disappointing way. The gritty artwork was inconsistent from artist to artist as they took turns drawing different sections. There was nothing really redeemable about this book. Don't waste your time on it like so many of its artists and writers did.
