An other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1962. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment.
Why We’re Excited:
Asside from the fact that we here at EYC HQ pretty much turn into raving maniacs at just about everything that Guillermo del Toro has ever created, The Shape of Water has pretty much everything that we want in a movie: an amazing cast, absolutely gorgeous visuals, a heartbreaking, pulse-pounding story, and Doug Jones in an elaborate costume.
Not to mention that, based on some of the visuals seen in the trailer, it’s entirely possible that The Shape of Water may be the closest thing we ever get to another del Toro Hellboy movie… (don’t get us wrong, we are insanely excited for Neil Marshall‘s reboot of the franchise starring David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, and Ian McShane, but we hold a very special place in our hearts for Ron Perlman…).
