2018 is shaping up to be a banner year for the film industry, and in an effort to help weed through the impending onslaught of audio-visual overstimulation, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to redefine our Fresh Trailers – focusing on some of the films coming out each month that we are super excited about.

This month, we’ve tasked the basement gnomes with narrowing down the bevy of movies incoming in February. Welcome to the new and improved Fresh Trailers – let’s see what’s coming out next month!

Feb 2

Winchester (2018)

Rated: PG-13 for violence, disturbing images, drug content, some sexual material and thematic elements
Directed by: Michael Spierig, Peter Spierig
Written by: Michael Spierig, Peter Spierig, Tom Vaughan
Starring: Helen Mirren, Sarah Snook, Jason Clarke, Angus Sampson

Why We’re Excited About It:
The Winchester Mansion has long been a fascination of ours over at EYC – but then again, we’re enthralled by most things that boast a long history of pain and madness… maybe that says something about us… nah…

Dame Hellen Mirren is what really sells us on this one – cause who wouldn’t want to see an Academy Award winning actress play the paranoid matron of America’s largest rifle manufacturer…

Why We’re Excited About It:
It might be easier to list the reasons that we aren’t excited about Black Panther.

Reasons We Aren’t Excited about Black Panther

1.

End of list

After Chadwick Boseman’s scene-stealing introduction in Captain America: Civil War, we are more than ready to see more of Wakanda’s favorite son in action. What’s more the film boasts one of the most impressive casts in recent memory, with more than 200 award wins and 327 award nominations – including more than a couple Academy Awards/Noms – for just the primary cast.

Early Man (2018)

Rated: PG for rude humor and some action
Directed by: Nick Park
Written by: Mark Burton, James Higginson, Nick Park
Starring: Tom Hiddleston, Maisie Williams, Eddie Redmayne, Miriam Margolyes, Richard Ayoade, Timothy Spall, Mark Williams

Why We’re Excited About It:
The team that brought us Wallace and Gromit are telling a story about civilization’s shift from the stone age to the iron age? Yes please.

Also, we’re pretty sure everyone needs a little bit more of Richard Ayoade in their lives…

Annihilation (2018)

Rated: NR
Directed by: Alex Garland
Written by: Alex Garland
Starring: Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Oscar Isaac, Jennifer Jason Leigh

Why We’re Excited About It:
Just about everything about this movie excites us. From the concept, to the cast we’re completely on board. All of these things pale in comparison to the fact that the writer/director of 2014’s Ex Machina (who also had a hand in writing 28 Days Later, Sunshine, and Dredd) is helming the film. Alex Garland is amazing at building and sustaining brilliantly painful levels of tension and we’re ready to subject ourselves to that with gusto.
